Because Padre Rob tagged me.
1. Name a book that you want to share so much that you keep giving away copies:
| The 1979 Book of Common Prayer Personal Leather Bound Edition |
It may be corny to give this thing away but I don’t care. It has had a huge formative effect on my life over the past two years and sharing it is like sharing a part of my spirit. Though the edition changes, it seems every time I have a copy of the Book of Common Prayer I wind up giving it to someone.
I wonder if they ever read it?
2. Name a piece of music that changed the way you listen to music:
| Whatever and Ever Amen Ben Folds Five Track 8: Cigarette |
I first heard this song one my friend Jen’s Discman while listening to this album by Ben Folds Five. I loved the album, but this song completely floored me. It was so short, so short and yet the story that it told, the situation that it painted, was so powerful and poignant. It’s like you’re going through your day, enjoying this great CD, and then this song comes and grabs you by the collar, dragging you into this completely other world.
It was the first time I realized how powerfully music can affect people.
3. Name a film you can watch again and again without fatigue:
| The Human Stain Anthony Hopkins, Nicole Kidman, Ed Harris, and Gary Sinise |
Or,
| V for Vendetta (Widescreen Edition) Natalie Portman, Hugo Weaving |
For me, The Human Stain has for three years been the answer to the “my favorite movie” question. Its portrayal of the brokenness of humanity is powerful and it’s not hard to see yourself in these broken characters. However, I will say that V for Vendetta is rapidly rising to the top. Whether it can really unseat The Human Stain is yet to be seen.
4. Name a performer for whom you suspend all disbelief:
![]() |
Sir Anthony Hopkins |
This one is no contest.
5. Name a work of art you’d like to live with:

I generally like anything by Van Gogh and a dream of mine would be to own any of his paintings. This is one of my favorites, a print of it hangs above my couch.
6. Name a work of fiction which has penetrated your real life:
| A Prayer for Owen Meany By John Irving |
I read this book as an assignment during a pulpit ministry internship in Tyler, TX. It not only changed the way I view life, it changed the way I write about it.
7. Name a punch line that always makes you laugh:
Q: What’s brown and sticky?
A: A stick.
Alright, I tag Mom, Kelli, Richard, JTB and Indie.
