A well-regarded restaurant in Aurora has just been served another heaping helping of acclaim.

This time, it comes from the James Beard Foundation, bestowers of the coveted James Beard Awards, the Oscars of the restaurant industry.

The foundation has announced that Annette, Chef Caroline Glover’s new restaurant in the Stanley Marketplace at 2501 Dallas St., is among 28 semi-finalists nationwide for best new restaurant. It’s the only Colorado eatery on the list for best new restaurant.

Last August, Bon Appetit magazine named Annette and RiNo’s Denver Central Market to its list of the 50 best new restaurants in the country.

Also, Glover is in the running in the James Beard Awards for best chef/Southwest, along with Alex Seidel of Denver’s Mercantile Dining & Provision at Denver Union Station and Dana Rodriguez of Denver’s Work & Class.

Seidel and Rodriguez have been semifinalists before; Glover is a first timer.

Elsewhere on the James Beard Awards semi-finalists list, Boulder’s Frasca Food and Wine once again is in the race for the nation’s outstanding restaurant after having been a finalist last year.

Here are Colorado semi-finalists in other categories:

Todd Leopold of Denver’s Leopold Bros. distillery — outstanding wine, spirits or beer professional.Andy Clark of Louisville’s Moxie Bread Co. — outstanding baker. The Little Nell in Aspen — outstanding wine program.

The James Beard Awards, established in 1990, recognizes culinary professionals for excellence and achievement in their fields. They are named for the noted cookbook author, teacher, columnist and television personality, who died in 1985.

The semi-finalists were chosen from among tens of thousands of entries by an independent volunteer panel of hundreds of judges that includes restaurant critics, food and wine editors, culinary educators and past James Beard Award winners.

Finalists in the competition will be announced March 14, and the winners will be proclaimed on May 7 at the James Beard Awards Gala in Chicago.

A separate set of media awards to cookbook authors, culinary broadcast producers and hosts, and food journalists will be presented April 27 in New York.
